Description of Webinar

This course will provide medical speech-language pathologists with a foundation for oncology-related trismus. The course will review basic concepts surrounding trismus and explore advanced concepts related to multi-factorial and challenging etiologies. Multidisciplinary collaboration will be a highlight of this course, showcasing assessment and treatment considerations through multiple lenses. Emerging data in the field and MD Anderson-derived data will be discussed. This training is tailored for SLPs working in the oncologic or medical setting who are seeking to enhance their care of patients with trismus.

Learning objectives

1. Participants will be able to discuss the functional impact of oncology-related trismus.

2. Participants will be able to state three different etiologies of oncology-related trismus.

3. Participants will be able to describe the role of the SLP on a multi-disciplinary trismus care team.

Presenter Bio:

Holly McMillan M.C.D. CCC-SLP, LMP, CLT is a Senior Speech Language Pathologist and Co-Director of Trismus Clinic at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas School of Public Health, a licensed massage therapist, and certified lymphedema therapist with expertise in oncology and head and neck cancer rehabilitation. Ms. McMillan leads the manual therapy service lines within the head and neck surgery department and specializes in fibrosis and lymphedema management. She recently served as lead clinician on an NIH funded clinical trial examining manual therapy for late effect dysphagia and is a collaborator on several active NIH funded clinical trials in head and neck cancer survivorship.
