AUDIENCE: Undergraduate, graduate students, Clinical Fellows, Clinicians who would like to transition from school-based SLP to medical-based SLP. All experience levels interested in voice, cough and swallowing related topics.

DESCRIPTION: Chronic cough is one of the toughest conditions we treat. It’s disruptive to daily life often preventing patients from enjoying group outings, family dinners and theatrical performances. During the pandemic the presence of a chronic cough has become even more distressing as cough is often seen as a sign of illness. In this webinar we will discuss a diagnostic algorithm, common etiologies, as well as frequently employed treatments for chronic cough. We will focus specifically on neurogenic cough, its pathophysiology and treatment approaches for this especially enigmatic condition.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Dewan was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She attended college and medical school in Chicago at Northwestern University as part of the Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME). During her residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Dr. Dewan trained in both Houston and Memphis. She completed a Laryngology fellowship at UCLA under Dr. Gerald Berke and Dr. Dinesh Chhetri.

Clinically, Dr. Dewan is a Laryngologist who specializes in adult surgeries for swallowing, speaking and breathing disorders. She has a special interest in the surgical management of dysphagia, speech and swallowing rehabilitation after total laryngectomy and the treatment of chronic cough. Dr. Dewan has authored book chapters and published papers and continues to conduct clinical research in these areas, particularly with a focus on swallowing function and quality of life.
