Description: This webinar will cover the framework for the re-framing the utility of the clinical swallowing evaluation as an assessment of risk. The evidence that supports this re-framing, the development of the framework, and the implementation process will be discussed. Documentation initiatives and changes that occurred as a result of this process will also be reviewed.

Learning Objectives:

1) Learners will be able to identify at least two risk factors for dysphagia and aspiration in a general patient population.

2) Learners will be able to distinguish dysphagia and aspiration risk factors from negative pulmonary sequala risk factors.

3) Learners willl be able to discuss the impact on documentation of this re-framing process.

Presenter:

Dr. Erin Reedy is the Assistant Director of Speech Pathology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and an Assistant Professor in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Rochester. Dr. Reedy is a board certified specialist in swallowing and has 16 years of experience working as an SLP in adult medical settings. Dr. Reedy’s research has focused on the interrelationships between oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal physiology and has clinical and research training from SLPs, Laryngologists, and Gastroenterologists. Dr. Reedy is passionate about evidence-based practice and has initiated a line of disemiation and implementation research.
